Our Science Fiction Fridays has so far focused on 19th century writers. Now we are expanding the scope of our programming to include all the science fiction related shows we can lay our hands on. This means that prominent pulp writers will be presented, as well as European classics such as 1984 and Kapek’s R.U.R. There will be interviews with visionaries like Asimov, documentaries, lectures, yes even a 1936 town meeting about the dangers of a machine take-over. Different styles of science fiction will be discussed, such as the first post-apocalyptic writings in Mary Shelley’s The Last Man, or Cyberpunk, a term coined to describe a style of sci-fi prominent after 1980.  In addition, there will be drama that takes you to the outer edges of reality and the known universe. So tune in every Friday.

  • Kapek’s R.U.R (the story that coined the term “robot”)

  • Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World
  • Robert Heinlein’s Destination Moon
  • Arthur C. Clark’s The Sentinel (the basis for the 2001 movie)
  • Harry Bates’ The Day the Earth Stood Still (Farewell to the Master)
  • Ray Bradbury’s The Rocket
  • George R. Stewart’s The Earth Abides
  • A brief look at the Superman series and the Star Trek universe
  • Much more

In addition, there will be readings from the works of Frank Herbert, Philip K. Dick, Isaac Asimov, Kurt Vonnegut jr. , Ursula K. Le Guin, Cory Doctorov and many more
