The troubled history of the CIA

serveimageThe ultimate puppet masters, conspiracy theorists the world over recognize CIA’s imprint on all aspects of life. Since its founding by Harry Truman in 1947 the agency has been shrouded in myth.  But how much can one organization really do? Biographies by Salon editor David Talbot and by Stephen Kinzer on the life of CIA’s first director general, Allen Dulles, claim that all the problems with mass surveillance and unlawfull killings  that we see today originate in the early years of the organization.

I have trawled the internet for films, documentaries and lectures on the history of CIA. It seems impossible to separate fact from fiction, but I have done my best by excluding keywords like “ufo”, “area 51” and “mind control”. What remains is a selection of resources on the role of the CIA during the Cold War. I have added a public domain feature movie about a CIA analyst during the fall of Saigon.
