Remembering Cary Grant & Charade (1963)

Charade, a Hitchcock-like thriller,  was directed by Stanley Donen, known for Singin in the Rain (1952). It features Cary Grant and the lovely Audrey Hepburn. The film has a high rating at imdb, but when the film was released in 1963 The New York Times complained. “I tell you, this light-hearted picture is full of such gruesome violence”, wote the critic. For today’s audience, however, accustomed to Tarantino or worse, the film seems rather harmless. Variety, while complaining about miss Hepburn’s plain outfit, stated that  “Charade has all the ingredients of success, some in spades, blended into a tasty dish that spells ticket-selling ambrosia.”
